Ukraine, Intervention, and the Post-Liberal Order

Abstract The conflict in Ukraine indicates some of the features a potential post-liberal order and raises several ethical issues that may arise for international interventions as world changes. What types interventions, if any, are justifiable response to situations such one Ukraine? Can be permissible given undermining universalist claims often used support them? How should states prioritize between there is an even greater number global challenges order? Three new books— Solferino 21 by Hugo Slim, Decolonizing Human Rights Abdullahi Ahmed An-Naim, Promoting Justice across Borders Lucia Rafanelli—can help navigate these questions. Drawing on their insights, this essay argues reform can justified defend liberal order, intervention defended from relativist basis, socioeconomic rights priority.
